Interior Design Elements That Work

With the popularity of home remodeling shows on cable television, a lot of ordinary people have decided to try their hand at becoming amateur interior decorators. But, as many of them quickly find out, there’s a lot more to interior design than simply knowing what swags and grommet are.

Professional interior decorators use a variety of elements, such as fabrics, colors and accessories to create those fabulous looks in the homes of celebrities in million dollar mansions. But for folks who are just trying to make their condo or small house look great, there are a few interior design tricks that don’t cost a lot of money or require a design degree.

One of the easiest design elements for amateurs to use effectively is curtains and drapes. These simple pieces of fabric have the power to dramatically change the entire look of a room. They’re also a good element to build an entire room around.

So if you’re decorating on a budget and can’t afford to buy new furniture, drapes and carpets, consider just starting with the drapes. And if you’re really on a budget, take a look at sheer curtains. The filtered sunlight that comes through these fabric wonders can fill up a whole room in warm light.
